ellis island

i photographed the ellis island immigrant hospital in 1993. i was given access to the south island with a park ranger as an escort. personally, i immigrated to the united states via kennedy airport in new york. a much easier process i imagine, even though i still needed an x-ray of my lungs, an hiv test, and i wasn't allowed to take jobs that american citizens could do better. that was in 1987. many great people helped me through that process. i stayed, and new york became my home for over 30 years.

j'ai photographié l'hôpital des immigrants à ellis island en 1993. j'ai eu accès à l'île du sud, accompagné avec un garde du département des parcs. personellement, j'ai immigré aux états-unis par l'aéroport kennedy à new york, beaucoup plus simple je pense. mais j'ai quand même dû fournir une radio de mes poumons, prendre un vih test, et aussi ne pas prendre un boulot qu'un citoyen américain pourrait faire mieux. c'était en 1987. beaucoup de gens généreux m'ont aidés pendant ce processus. je suis resté, et j'ai habité à new york pendant plus de trente ans.
