misc nyc late 80’s

i moved to new york in january 1987 and my first apartment was in washington heights, my new roommate had a great cat.

i had left my skateboard in france, this image of a ramp in highbrige park is on one of the first rolls of film i shot in new york.

i had seen so many pictures of the nyc subway that when i moved here i didn't really care to do more, this is the only subway picture i took before the grafitti crackdown - probably the R train at 23rd st, the one i'd take to go to the school of visual arts.

when i moved to brooklyn mid 87 i thought 5th ave only existed in manhattan, so i started to photograph it with my brand new yashica mat. the neighborhood felt safer than washington heights, but not by much.
