this portfolio of unnamed, yet well-known to the botanist, plants and flowers, offers a collection of randomly and carefully chosen specimens within a particular garden hidden near the tropic of capricorn. it is a voyage of discovery guided by observations following the steps of the most ardent explorers of biological beauty, a series of accurate renderings neither paintings nor photographs. some details may depict perfectly certain attributes to specific genus or species, but the individual plant aesthetics alone is the reason for its reproduction here. the organic elements given to the subjects show themselves through osmosis, a transfer of pigments in space and time, from the natural world to the organized display of the silver salts on a page, giving us a taste of botany as we look at the images hanging in suspense. although not latent for long, they take shape as an imprint, with the strange feel of a color negative, forever living, floating in front of a plain background, true to their intended form.

a lumen print is made with a regular sheet of light sensitive b+w photo paper, an organic subject, such as a flower or a plant, a contact frame and a lot of sunshine for the light, but also for the heat. once flattened and pressed between the glass and the paper, the plant natural pigments will transfer onto the silver halides leaving the water behind. the colors given depend on the type of plant, emulsion and exposure time. the stronger the sunlight the brighter the colors, whether the emulsion is warm or cold.

ce portfolio de plantes et de fleurs anonymes, mais bien connues des botanistes, offre une collection de specimens soigneusement choisis au hazard, à l'intérieur d'un jardin caché près du tropique du capricorne. c'est un voyage de découvertes guidé par des observations suivant les pas d'explorateurs les plus ardents à la recherche d'une beauté biologique, une série de rendus ni peints ni photographiés. quelques détails certes dépictent précisément quelques genus ou espèce, mais seul l'estétique d'une plante individuelle est la raison de sa reproduction ici. les éléments organiques des sujets se révèlent par osmose, un transfère de pigments dans l'espace et le temps, du monde naturel à un arrangement organisé de sels argentiques sur la page, nous donnant un goût de la botanie alors que l'on regarde les images suspendues entre deux eaux. cet état latent très écourté donne jour à une empreinte qui a l'étrange sensation d'un négatif couleur, éternellement en vie, flottant devant un fond uni et vide, tel qu'il est censé l'être.

un tirage lumen est fait avec une simple feuille de papier photo argentique noir et blanc, un sujet organique, comme une plante ou une fleur, une plaque de verre et beaucoup de soleil pour la lumière mais aussi pour la chaleur. une fois aplatis et pressés entre la vitre et le papier, les pigments naturels de la plante sont transférés sur les halogènures d'argent et laissent l'eau derrière. les couleurs données dépendent du type de plante, de l'émulsion et le temps d'exposition. plus la lumière est forte plus les couleurs sont brillantes, que l'émulsion soit d’un ton neutre ou chaud.
